The Weimar Republic

Germany went through an absolutely terrible time after the Treaty of Versailles, Germany suffered terribly. In 1923 when the French occupied the Ruhr, the people went on strike and soon found themselves in mass unemployment and hyperinflation. With Germany crumbling down a new government was set up, to put Germany back together, this called off the resistance in the Ruhr. The French decided to leave the Ruhr and hyperinflation stopped. This was bad for the Nazis but good for moderate parties. As Germany recovered many people were in favour of the new government because it got rid of the French in the Ruhr. In 1924 Germany was still recovering with the help of Gustav Stresemann, Germany’s foreign minister. Stresemann managed to convince the winning powers of the War (France, Britain and America) to accept lower reparation payments. Germany kept on improving in 1926, when it was finally allowed to join the League of Nations, and in 1929 another plan was made to reduce reparations even more. Germany now wasn’t suffering economically, German Banks borrowed money and new houses, roads, and radio stations etc life was starting to grow again, until the start of 1929.
