Thinking the enquiry through - the IST way!
You are going to make a fully automated, multi-media PowerPoint presentation ready
for an international conference.
The purpose of your presentation is to explain to your international
audience, how historians and archaeologists find out about the lives
of Medieval peasants.
There should be five sections to your presentation but there
can be as many pages as you want. However, the presentation should last
no longer than 10 minutes.
- Introduction: explain what you hope to achieve in your
presentation and mention briefly all the main points you are going
to make. (Tip: this is best done after you have finished preparing
the rest of the presentation)
- Explain what we can learn from the archaeological evidence:
skeletons, aerial photos, artefacts etc. (Tip: try to get some good
pictures to illustrate your findings)
- Explain what we can learn from medieval pictures: try to bring as
much information as you have learnt from the Luttrell Psalter. (Tip:
again images are very important here)
- Explain what we can learn from manorial court records: e.g. who
were freeman and villeins?, what were manorial courts?, how were
peasants lives controlled? etc.
- Conclusion: briefly repeat your main findings and then suggest
some further questions you hope to be able to answer in a future
conference. (Tip: there are four good examples on page 13 of your
textbook)
Try to use as much evidence from the sources as possible
to support your answers and use the resources on the Humanities website
to help you find pictures etc. http://www.intst.net/humanities/y7/term1/medieval_peasants/index.htm
The very best PowerPoint presentations will
include a careful balance of narration, text, images, video and music.
You will be given two lessons plus homework to complete this
assignment. The best work will be awarded merits and the very best will
be considered for a commendation.
