On Wednesday, 1999 August 11, a total eclipse

of the Sun was visible from within a narrow corridor which went across the Eastern Hemisphere. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow begun in the Atlantic and crossed central Europe, the Middle East, and India where it ended at sunset in the Bay of Bengal. A partial eclipse was seen within the much wider path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which included northeastern North America, all of Europe, northern Africa and the western half of Asia.

I was in Ashford in Kent at a hotel and we wached the eclipse, it wasn't a total eclipse but it was spectacular.
