Geography

Although you may not think it, geography was a large part of Quarry Bank Mill being successful. Quarry bank mill was so successful because it was no longer possible to house the new machines in cottages or small workshops. It had a stronger power source, this made the machines have the capabilities of working faster and producing better things. Quarry bank mill was so successful because there was more and more cotton available, especially after the Americans started to grow it. .It was successful because Samuel Gregg was clever enough to find a stream where the water could flow fast enough to turn his water wheel. Cotton soon started to become a product which was either needed or wanted everywhere, luckily for Quarry Bank mill, once everyone had heard of the mill, this of course, was the first place they went to get their cotton.
