Technology New ways of making iron improved machines for spinning and weaving. From the 1830’s it increased its profits by using weaving looms powered by steams. Quarry bank mill was so successful because the use of cheaper coal and better ways of making iron so soon made steam engines very profitable. It was so successful because it had stronger power source (the fast stream), which is what the new machines needed. Quarry bank mill was so successful because Samuel Gregg wanted to use spinning frames as these would spin cotton more quickly and this would make cotton cheaper.
