My name is Dr. Henry Hardie. I was born in Manchester. I have worked mostly all my life as a doctor devoting my life to medicine and people.

Lately with references to the spinning factories in Manchester I have carried out a survey in seven factories to see what the state of health was. I made several observations regarding the state of health towards the adults and children employed in those factories

I made several serious observations concerning the state of ventilation and that it was generally good all over each of the factories. I have found that the persons who have grown up in the business of cotton-spinners are generally worse looking that those who have followed other occupations. I have not found in my survey that the infirmities of age came on sooner than with persons in general.
