Entertainment

Entertainment was important in Tolosa as any other Roman city.  Theatres housing plays, mimes and poetry recitals were in all probability dispersed throughout the city.  However these structures have yet to be located.

The bigger entertainment facilities were outside of the city center, located in present day Purpan.  Here gladiator tournaments and other dangerous attractions captivated not only residents but also neighboring village citizens.

The entertainment in Tolosa reflected a prosperous small city.  There was never a need to create bigger entertainment structures due to the relative small population of Tolosa.  Tolosa was never a city for mass celebration.  Tolosa therefore reflected a small rich Roman city with enough entertainment for local citizens.  However grand events such as weeklong celebrations or historical battle reenactments were reserved for larger cities.

This is a model reconstruction of a theater in Rome.
