France wins the 2006 Treaty!
Top 3
1. France 2. Serbia 3. Italy
The results of the 2006 Treaty of Versailles have been decided.
France the most successful proposer placed first and Italy clearly the
most successful seconder placed third. Although Serbia gained a large
amount of land and was the second most successful proposer, it was also
the least successful seconder.
France was placed first as all but one of its six motions were passed
and they mainly punished Germany or regained old French territory. They
were probably the most worthwhile set of motions. Serbia was clearly one
of the most beneficiary nations at least doubling in size and this is
the main reason it is in the top 3. Italy is in the top 3 as it was the
best seconder of motions as none of the motions it seconded were
defeated.
Although Poland made great territorial gains from its motions some
were vague such as, motion 31 "Acquisitions of land under Poland
for Poland in so far as population is Polish". This has no clear
boundaries and could have stretched from the North sea to the
Mediterranean if passed. Poland also supported some ridiculous motions
such as motion 2, "Italy to control Gorizia, Istria, but not Fiume,
Zara, Dodecnese, Protectorate over Albania , Vlorė, part of Dalmatia,
part of the German Asian + African colonial empire".
The United States of America representatives clearly did not care for
improving the situation in Europe. This may be due to the fact most if
not all motions passed will not affect them in any way or they may want
to control Europe. Many propositions made by the US were very vague and
often had little meaning, such as motion 12, "There should be no
secret treaties between states". Whereas others planned to weaken
Europe as a whole; such as motions 23, "General disarmament among
members of League of Nations so all are equal. But, further disarmament
among countries who did not prove to be adequately responsible i.e.
Germany" and motion 28 "Countries found to be committed to any
secret treaties or deals be subject to prosecution by League of
Nations".
The Great Britain either have the opinion that they need to be
compensated as they were dragged into the war or some of their
representatives were not on the ball. As a nation they were the least
successful proposer of motions, this may be because many of their
proposals were quite self-centered such as motion 8, "Great Britain
should be given reparations from Germany to cover costs of the Great
War, exact amount to be decided by the League of Nations".
