231 war guilt clause The clause the Germans had to agree to so they would take full responsibility for the starting the war.
Allies Countries that won the first world war. Example: Britain, France, USA and Italy.
Communists People who want everyone to be treated in the same way, everyone should be equals. For example: everyone get the same pay for the jobs they do.
Democratic The way which the government was wanted to run. A self-ruling government.
Free Corps A volunteer service of soldiers that helped fight the battles between communists and socialists.
Hyperinflation The rising value of money again but worse.
Inflation The rising value of money.
Marks A Currency. Example:German marks.
Military zone An area that is secured by the military.
Passive resistance campaign The people who lived in the Ruhr used this to fend off French and Belgian solidiers. It meant not responding to anything the people were told to do. They didn't do any work for the soldiers that had invaded and basically ignored the fact that the soldiers were even there.
Red army People of the Ruhr set this up. Anything with Red in it was linked with the Red communist flag. The red army in otherwords was the Communist army.
Red flags Again the red links to communists. The spartacists hung them everywhere when they tried to take over the city of Berlin. Communist flags.
Reichstag This was Germanys parliament that consisted of many parties that would help form a new government.
Reparations This was a bit like compensation. The Germans had to pay money to the winning allies to make up for what they had lost. Example: Much of the war was fought on French soil. Germanys money would help France regain its strength.
Rentenmark In 1923 Germanys currency was changed from the German mark to the Rentenmark so hyperinflation would stop.
Revolution Like a rebellion people rebel or revolt for what they believe in.
Ruhr The Ruhr was actually a river that ran through an industrial town hence the region being called the Ruhr.
Socialists Socialists were the enemies of the communists.
Spartacists A communist party that was led by Rosa Luxemburg.
Strikes Smaller than a revoloution. People refuse to work and normally rebel in the streets demonstrating what they believe in. The people don't normally get paid however in the Ruhr they did.
The Big Three The 3 countries that emerged from the first world war that seemed to have control. Consisted of Britain, France and the USA.
