The Art Architecture and Design in Germany was controversial and modern they had new ideas and architectural wonders that no one had ever seen before. The Bauhaus

Walter Gropius founded the Bauhaus school in 1919. The Bauhaus was a combination of local Academy Art and the School of Arts and Crafts that offered a sufficient education. One of the Bauhaus’s main focus to achieve was to be no distinction between structural and decorative art, hence the structure of the building.

The Bauhaus was known around the world for breaking the barriers between science and art. The Bauhaus produced many famous and talented artists and architects. It was the start of Germanys success to individual, worldwide art.

 

Erich Mendelsohn

Erich Mendelsohn was famously known for his sculptural design of the Einstein Tower in Potsdam. He designed the Schocken Department Stores in Stuttgard and in Chemnitz. In 1933 he moved to England. He was known as the “pioneer of expressionism.” He was born in 1887 and died in 1953.

 

Peter Behrens

Peter Behrens originally started off as a painter but later went on to do graphic and applied arts. He played a major part in Germanys evolution in modern art. From 1907 he worked as an artistic advisor. He was famous for his design of the turbine factory in Berlin that follows many of his other structural design. He was born in 1868 and died in 1940.

 

Hans Poelzig

Hans Poelzig is most known for the auditorium in Berlin, Grosses Schauspielhaus. It was built in 1919. It is remembered as the finest architectural examples in German history. He taught at the Breslau Art Academy and the Technical Academy. He was born in 1869 and died in 1936.

 

The Einstein Tower

The Einstein Tower was built in 1928. It was 18.2 metres tall. It was built as a solar tower telescope. It was eye saw to the German public at the time. It was decorated with the same type as red brick as the main library on Tokyo University has. The tower has made some important discoveries.

Theo Kirby, Robert Thompson and Jenna Macmillan
