In the Weimar Period authors decided to break away from
traditional writing and deal with themes of war and misery in Urban areas. They
were now written on sexual themes and contained social commentary.
Alfred Döblin
Alfred Döblin was a German novelist and
physician. He is described as the most talented narrative writer of the German
Expressionism
movement. He studied medicine then became a doctor. His background helped him
help write one of his greatest novels Berlin
Alexanderplatzm, which was written in 1929. He was born in 1878 and died in
1957.
All Quiet on the western front
All quiet on the western
front one of Germanys greatest books ever sold. It sold about 3.5 million copies
in several different languages. It is still considered one of the greatest anti
war novel of all time. It was written by Erich
Maria Remarque in 1929.
Thomas Mann
Thomas
was essayist, cultural critic, and novelist .Thomas Mann was awarded the Nobel
Prize for Literature in 1929. One of the books he wrote was Buddenbrooks,

Music
After the war, Germany once again opened itself up to foreign influences.
Musically it was America that had the biggest impact on the Weimar culture. It
was the American jazz that quickly became the most popular music in Germany,
partly because of it being played in the cabarets also and idea from the states.
Cabarets
in Germany were growing in popularity and their dances were also hugely popular.
The American dance the Charleston was huge as well as the Chocolate Kiddies.
