| Pilsudski's Poland -
|
The Polish delegation |
Jozef Pilsudski was a special case at the Treaty of Versailles, as he was sent to represent a nonexistent state, Poland. He entered the Palace with simple and reasonable goals, all of which he managed to achieve.
Poland was off with a smooth start, managing to gain the majority needed to pass her first motion: the establishment of an independent Polish state. Poland was now a country, but one lacking land and people. These were Pilsudski’s next objectives, to gain land from Ukraine and Silesia, as well as an all important port on the Baltic sea, on which the chance of her survival rested.
Pilsudski’s first attempt at acquiring such a port was a failure, lacking only one vote. Her second attempt came two rounds later, when after fighting her way through tough negotiations she managed to gain the four votes needed. Poland was now in possession of the Gulf of Danzig, as well Western Ukraine and Silesia.
In a matter of just three hours Pilsudski had managed to reincarnate the country of Poland, which had ceased to exist for the last century and a half.Jozef Pilsudski preparing to Heil Hitler, to the grief of an American civil servant |
