I'm Korean who has been in IST for two years. I found each country had different view about Korean War like all other historical events. I saw many books and resources written by British or Americans, which sometimes different from 'typical' Korean view. I had 2-year British education, so my view towards it might have been changed but still I want to express my view about Korean war even though it's very emotional.

My grandmother's family is in North Korea. My grandmother, when she was at my age, her father and her brother escaped to South Korea promising to her mother, grandmother and young sister to meet again in few weeks. This promise was not been kept after 50 years still.

So, why Korean War broke out?

저는 IST 이곳에서 2년동안 있었던 한국인입니다. 그동안 저는 다른 역사적 이벤트들과 마찬가지로 한국전쟁에 대해 각 나라마다 다른 생각을 가지고 있는걸 발견했습니다. ‘전통적인’ 한국인의 생각과 다른 영국인 혹은 미국인이 쓴 책들을 많이 보았습니다. 이미 저는 2년의 영국 수업을 받아보았기 때문에, 어쩌면 한국적인 생각이 많이 변화가 되었을지 모르지만은, 아주 감정적인 한국전쟁에 대한 저의 생각을 보여드리고 싶습니다.

제 할머니의 가족은 북한에 있습니다. 제 나이 만했을때, 할머니, 증조할아버지 그리고 할머니의 남동생 되시는 분이 남한으로 도망쳐 왔습니다. 증조 할머니와 할머니의 여동생에게 몇주 안에 꼭 보겠다는 약속을 남긴채 말이죠. 하지만 50년이 지난 지금에도 이 약속은 지켜지지 않았습니다.
