The Spanish Civil War

Why did Franco's military coup fail?

This question deals with the immediate causes of the civil war. If Franco had been successful, there would not have been a civil war. There are two activities. 
  1. Complete a timeline of the significant events of 1936. You need to begin with the formation of the Popular front and the election results of February and end with the attempted military coup coordinated by general Mola in July. Use both Culpin and Henig and Farmer for this.
  2. Explain why the military coup failed. Culpin and Henig (230) and the analysis of Forrest 'Why did the military rising not achieve immediate control of Spain?' (53-56)
