ANZAC Day 25th April
2001 As you may have noticed at the front of the
school, the flags of
Australia and New Zealand have recently been flying at half-mast. The 25th of April
is ANZAC day, a very important day for people from New Zealand and
Australia. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corp. ANZAC soldiers were
fighting on the Gallipoli
peninsula in Turkey, during the First World War. The battle began on
the 25th of April 1915 and over 200 000 men were either killed or
wounded in just nine months. Year 8 have been studying the events of
the 25th April 1915 with Ms Buckley and Mr Jones-Nerzic and extracts from
their work will be appearing here in the next few days.
